Sport IPL (Indian Premier League) vs PWL (Pro Wrestling League)

What is a sport? A physical activity involving exertion or usage of mind, right? Any kind of sport teaches you a lot of things. How to deal with teammates (since every individual is different), the prime principle to win is based on “hope”, practice and sense of judgement. Indulging in any game enhances you as a person, instils calmness, hard work and teamwork. Enough said, we all are aware how important it is in our lives.

As soon as any Indian is asked about any sport, the answer is automatically boiled down to cricket (not saying there is anything bad about it). But, has anyone ever given a thought as to how important the other sports are. We live in a country where numerous games are being played in every region, name it Kabbadi, Gilli Danda etc. but whenever there is talk about international sport, it is always cricket for us.

We saw so many major events taking its shape in this form of sport, for example- IPL, a creation of BCCI in 2007. The Indian Premier League has spread its name worldwide. Having the best amount invested in the game where millionaires come and bid on the players. Craziest amount of money involved in this tournament. Apart from cricket what seems to have been the latest fad is the induction of glamour with sports. Various leading actors are seen not only being present for representing their particular cities but also buying their own team.

The induction of glamour has undoubtedly made it more exciting for people to watch it, however we can’t ignore the consequences that follow. Various scams have been recognized with this event, leading to many teams being thrown out of the league. The more commercialized tournament now only deals with cheerleaders, good after match parties, drinks and glamour. This is not called for a sport event and more importantly for a sportsperson.

Coming down to the crux of this write up, let us critically analyse in our minds about what all do we know about PWL? Anyone? The Pro Wrestling League is a great leap in the history of Indian wrestling, commonly known as Kushti and has the cast of top Indian Wrestlers. Still on the verge of getting huge sums of money and taking a bold step in popularizing the sport at a global level, this league has catered to the interest of many individuals who also have a vision of performing one of the most played sports of India at an international level.

How many of us know about the PWL players? Well, its very surprising to digest that once Virat Kohli gets a new haircut, Dhoni has a daughter or Sreesanth is playing with a band, it becomes a talk of the town. It’s painful to see how insensitive we are when it comes to anything else but cricket. I’m not all against cricket in particular but I just emphasise on the fact that every sport is unique and essential in its own way. We don’t need Bollywood biopics coming up to us and teaching us what these sports are.

Cricket undoubtedly is a great sport and very interesting to watch as well. It has generated a lot of revenue, won laurels at international platform and that sounds perfect. But the other players of any sporting event also work the same amount of time, live a simple and less fashionable life and they deserve to be appreciated for once atleast. In the materialistic world we live in, we are attracted to the more glamorous sort of lifestyle ignoring that the world caters to the other strata’s too.

Nevertheless, I hope everyone pays some thought over this and welcome the PWL also with a warm heart and support so that our country’s flag is held high in every major event.

Keep playing!
